Can replacing one spark plug wire actually cause a rough idle?

One of the boots on my spark plug wires was broken and causing a horrible rough idle. So I put one new spark plug wire in its place just because of how hard they are to take off and put on. There is still a small rough idle, could this be because only

If you have proven that that was the spark plug that was faulty and you replaced it and a new lead it should fix it but a split in the boot wouldnt necessaraly cause a missfire unles you could see or hear the clicking of a spark earthing elsewhere. Once
