I just put some disc brake pads on an '87 Nissan truck- broke one retaining clip?

that came with the inboard pad only- my guess is this is mostly for ease of installation since the inner pad goes in first and both pads are held in place anyway by other retaining clips at each end. Since they bare on the disc and no way for them to
They don't offer a brake hardware kit with the part you need for like $5?
or are you talking about a clip molded into the pads.- is it just a squealer to let you know the pads are low, or does it help position the pad?
